in 1987, James Sommerville, Inc. performs grading,
paving and underground construction projects throughout Monterey,
Santa Cruz, San Benito and Southern Santa Clara county areas.

Our
People
We consider our people to be our most important asset. We
believe that our employees set us apart from other companies.
Our core group of employees averages over five years of employment
with our company and most of them have a least ten years experience
in the construction industry. We feel that education and training
are the keys to superior safety, Quality and productivity
and require that all employees attend in house training as
well as offering tuition and hourly pay for outside classes
or seminars. Last year we spent over $32,000 on training for
our employees on subjects ranging from proper compaction of
dirt to improving supervisory skills to CPR and first aid.
Our employees are all cross trained in different skills to
help them become more valuable and productive on your job.

 Safety
We have an outstanding safety record. One lost day in the last
five years of work. That's over 150,000 working hours. We have
accomplished this by training and developing procedures that
emphasize safe behavior on the job. All supervisory employees
and most of our other employees are certified in CPR and First
Aid and have passed and received certification in traffic control
and underground construction safety and shoring. Our safety
record allows us to be more competitive in our market with workers
compensation rates about 18% lower than average for our type
of work. |
